There is a major upturn expected in early 2016 as many renowned developers have promised to enhance every aspect of technology. Let’s evaluate the latest VR Headsets that are in-line for release in 2016 and what should you look for in a VR headset.
Oculus Rift
Oculus Rift is to be blamed for boosting the current hysterics by presenting its Virtual Reality headset. It was manufactured by Palmer Luckey, who was a 21 year old engineer. It was funded through Kickstarter and was snapped for two billion by Facebook. The gadget can be plugged into your system/computer via DVI and USB ports, it then provides 3D image on to its stereo screen by tracking your head movements. It is expected to be shipped in the first quarter of 2016 for its consumers. The package will include two wireless Oculus Touch Controllers that have the ability to monitor your hand movements. It is also compatible with Xbox One control pad.
Sony PlayStation VRSony’s Project Morpheus, which is the PlayStation 4 powered Virtual Reality headset, is expected to be released in early 2016. It has been officially named as PlayStation VR now.
As announced, the latest version will have a 5.7 inch OLED display instead of a 5 inch LCD display, which was the original prototype. It will improve motion blur and will facilitate low persistence. It has upgraded its display refresh rate to 120GHz and made 120 frames per second gaming experience possible for its consumers. Previously reported Morpheus MK1 issue regarding latency has been taken care of. It has added 18ms reading and tweaked nine LEDs in total to enable tracking accuracy, which will aid the headset’s positional responsiveness.
Microsoft HoloLens
Microsoft HoloLens is not just another Virtual Reality gadget. It has also added augmented reality, which makes half of the portion of this package. The technology integrated will blend real-time elements with the holographic images. In other words, you can experience yourself walking on the surface of Mars without even leaving your living room. It features Kinect-style technology to input voice commands and body gestures.The headset includes 120 degree of visionary field along both axis and provides high definition visuals. It does not require any system connection, as it has its own Windows 10 system built in the gadget, which works on battery. The HoloLens will more likely be released in the first quarter of 2016.
